Kenner chose an image of Leia in the Rebel Base on Hoth for the raw image, and their expert airbrush artists altered the photo to the cardback image we know.

 

The image has been gently extended to the right, to cover over the black border of the photograph.  The extended section would sit above the figure bubble area on the finished cardback.  The airbrushed area extends above Leia’s head and blends the new and the original areas together almost seamlessly.
